About Us

Each club has its own unique flavor and ethos. That climate changes as new members join and it is a constantly evolving group that changes with the times but also keeps the core mission in mind. The Zonta Club of LaSalle-Peru Area has been around since the 1920s and has certainly evolved for the new millennium.

Our Mission

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women through service and advocacy.

How we live the mission

You have often heard of the slogan "Think globally - act locally". This is at the core of how Zonta Clubs try to help. Local clubs will have events and participate in activities that foster our mission. We do this by doing the following:

  • Advocacy - communicating issues relating to women in our local areas
  • Service - helping with specific women's issues in our local areas by volunteering to help with everything from a home revamp for a disabled, elderly woman to gathering products for a local domestic violence shelter
  • Fundraising events - proceeds go to local scholarships, local women's charities, and a part goes towards our international biennium projects

Zonta Emblem

The origin of the word "ZONTA" is from the language of the Sioux Indian, and it was adopted as the Zonta International name in 1919.

THIS symbol – composed of MANY symbols – becomes ZONTA's symbol – a radiant group of executive women in business and the professions, who are loyal to the same inspired goals of SERVICE and WORLD UNDERSTANDING with none but the most TRUSTWORTHY and HONEST motives.
